It is, it seems, a time for losing -
at times never of our choosing –

family, friends, life’s warp and weft.
One may wonder why some are left

while others draw the shorter straw.
The brazen may skirt some human law

but none resist life’s last demand.
Without regard to cash in hand,

or properties accrued for gain,
as sure as sunshine and rain

we each will reach our unforeseen demise.
So love and patience - no more can I advise.
