PowerDesigner Database Name

To select a target Database Name click on the drop-down list . If the list is blank, use the folder button to select the path holding the PowerDesigner "DEF" database definition files. This path location is held in the PowerDesigner INI file in your Windows start-up directory.

The Database Name is necessary even if you intend to generate directly into a 4G product like PowerBuilder, Team Windows, Axiant, or Uniface. PowerDesigner is about to transform the conceptual/logical model into a physical schema to add implementation specifications such as indexes and referential integrity. These are necessary before generating either DBMS DDL and DML or 4GL code. (See also more discussion on the Conceptual Data Model).
