PowerDesigner is a Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tool written originally in the mid 1980's to enable modeling large scale Oracle databases - hence the spelling of "Designor". Having grown steadily over the years, PowerDesigner now supports far more than just Oracle - over forty DBMS products, in fact - and increasingly provides modeling capabilities for processes as well as data. Nevertheless its essential functions are about discovering, recording, formalizing, and implementing the data structures required to implement computer systems.
